Campsite blasted with the morning sun. It's important to choose sites like this in the colder months. Morning sun for the win!
With no real plan for the day, part of me wanted to explore Misty Lake a little bit, but a bigger part of me wanted to just relax and take it easy – and that’s exactly what I did. My entire day consisted of sitting in various places with my shoes off in the sun.
Looking west at the mouth of the Petawawa River
Not a cloud in the sky! But looks can be deceiving, it was definitely chilly out
Day 3: A day off to relax on Misty Lake
Since I had nowhere to go, I slept in a bit today. When I finally dragged my ass out of the tent I was greeted with a cool morning and a bright blue sky! It was a beautiful fall day, but cold. I made some coffee and spent my morning sitting on the rocks in the sun.
An absolutely beautiful October morning in Algonquin Park!
I love how camping comes down to the essentials: My shelter, my transportation.
Back at my campsite - decided to hang out on the cobblestone beach for a bit
Looking across the channel at my campsite - completely covered in shade
What a seriously gerogeous day!
Warm-up station #2 - traded socks for whiskey sours. A sweet deal if you ask me
But it's nice and sunny on this island!

Beautiful sunset
One of the many reasons I love camping in the fall - brilliant colors!
Warm up station #1 - Relaxing in the sun
Dinnertime rolled around and wouldn’t you know it – its Thanksgiving! So, I brought a 15lb turkey and all the fixings. It was a grand affair – fit for a king. Except it wasn’t. What actually happened was I ate a box of KD and went to bed after the fire had gone out.
It was hard to leave the heat from this fire in exchange for a cold tent
Beautiful maple tree - but you know what this mean... winter is coming
Eventually my campsite lost all sunlight - so I canoed over to the next warming station
I had to keep moving up the shoreline to stay in the sun but eventually it was no longer shining on my campsite. I was getting cold. I looked across the lake and spotted an island that was in full view of the sun. I mixed a drink, jumped in the boat and paddled over. I spent the last couple of hours on the island and stayed there for the sunset. It was getting cold and time to leave. When I got back to camp I added a layer and sat on the cobblestone beach to watch the lake go dark.
